Hi,

Anyone get any version of Nero to work on Vista? I just installed it,
and I've tried Nero 6, Nero 7 Premium, and who knows what other
versions of Nero.

Same thing every time. It goes through the install menu stating that
it is extracting files, then gives me some option to install some Ask
Browser or something, which I answer 'No' to, and then the install
program exits, never installing.........

What gives???

Any suggestions??

Disable anti virus and any unnecessary programs that are running.

Nero 6 works somewhat on my Windows Vista Ultimate.
Exactly what are you saying "No" to?

Try copying the CD to the hard drive and then install it from there.
Then be sure you update all the latest updates, about half a dozen for
me.

Nero 7 is reported to work, but you also need to get the updates.

There is a Nero 7 Enhanced that is supposed to be compatible with
Windows Vista.

There is an 'uninstall' program from the Nero site to uninstall the old Nero
program. Do that first, then reinstall the new Nero 7.

I had Nero 6 (lastest updates) working on several Beta Builds and RTM of
Vista. I use Nero primarily to burn DVDs, and for this it worked fine. I
have been using Nero 7 now on Vista for several months, and both of them
worked and installed fine. Nero 7 has a little more automaticity, i.e. when
I have an iso to burn it sets up a little faster.

The only things I can think of have been said. Try to stop an AV programs
while you're installing, and make sure that you have all of any older
version uninstalled and just to make sure I'd use the Nero and In CD clean
tools available by googling them before you try to install Nero 7. It
should install and work okay for you.

The Ask browser toolbar, by the sound of it..

Do you mean Nero 7 Premium Reloaded? I have been using Nero 7 with Vista
since before last Christmas, and have never had any problems with it. The
last few builds seem to run fine.

No, Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced:
http://www.amazon.com/Nero-7-Ultra-E...8883444&sr=1-1

However I just noticed Nero 8 is on the way:
http://www.nero.com/enu/nero8-info.html
This might be the best option if Nero is desired in Windows Vista.

I have never used Nero 7 so all I know is what I have heard.

That's an old marketing name, and it is not even mentioned as being Vista
compatible. I think that was what they called the full bundle before Vista
was even released.

They keep on changing the name whenever they include yet more other
feautures into the already ridiculously bloated suite.

Nero 7 Premium Reloaded is the first version I have seen with this claim
that it is Certified for Windows Vista, even though it has worked flawlessly
for me for many months.

Great, yet more bloat most probably. They started this nonsense when v6 was
current. I got Nero v5 with my first CD burner in 2000, and it was only
4.80MB. They have spoilt Nero by including all this other crap in the
installer, and that is why I use the hacked Nero Lite/Micro installers
instead.

Nero was not officially Vista compatible until 7.8.5.0, it's now at 7.10.1
and now 8 is being offered.

What is the difference between Nero Lite and a controlled install of Nero 7
enhanced? I was able to install just the programs that Nero Lite touts
(along with Nero Recode, which I thought I might use someday, but haven't).
Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Good question.

Well, the main reason is that the pesky Nero Scout thing is stripped out.
Unless they have changed the options in the installer, I do not think you
can choose to not have that installed.
