All fine and connects to secured wireless.

Neighbour comes home and switches his on which is netgear unsecured. My pc
will always connect to the netgear.

I went to wireless properties of netgear and unticked box to always connect
to netgear when available and there was another I unticked which cant
remember.

Switch off netgear and it connects to my router. As soon as netgear is
floating about reboot pc and it will connect to netgear. Even moved netgear
down in list of priority and still connects when mine is top of list.

Neighbour is now secured and all is well but am I unaware of something
regaring wireless with when an unsecured wireless is about Vista will
connect to this one. XP pc always reconnected to my secure one and ignored
netgear.

TIA

You should take the net gear network out of the list of wireless networks to
use completely, don't move it down the list if priority. If your secured
network becomes unavailable, it will go to the next network on the list.

Remove it from Network and Sharing > Manage wireless networks.

Also be sure that if you have a cordless phone that it isn't interfering
with your signal, some phones work on the same frequency. My does, it is
annoying. It cuts off all wireless networks but mine.

The link talks about connecting to preferred network.

Hi Guys, thanks for the input.

With reference to the link, these are all the settings I am referring to,
remove it from list, it comes back, in pproperties you 'untick' do not
connect to this network so you would think it will not connect...but it
still does.

Me thinks this issue is a requirement for SP1
