Hi,

I'm on the fence as to if I should buy my next machine with XP or Vista.
Anyone use Vista and gone back to XP? Anyone gone to Vista and would never
go back?

Thanks.

My son lives with his notebook computer... working away from home 5 days a
week and wearing out his computer every few months. Over the years he's used
every version of Windows and about every brand of laptop.

The new twist came yesterday. His Toshiba laptop running Vista had been
acting up lately so he bought a MacBook Pro 15. I asked about his
programming business being Windows-based. He said he got VM Ware - Fusion
with it so he can run XP on the MacBook. I guess that counts as one who went
from Vista back to XP....

'never' is bit too long to forecast....maybe a month

Only one known idiot has gone back to using XP after he was totally
confused by Vista.
All the rest of us, (billions & billions of Vista users) will never go
back to XP and we know for a fact, that linux is just a toy POS os.

Quite so, almost nobody uses Linux, thousands use XP, Billions have
switched to Vista and Frank is very happy with his Etch a Sketch now we
wrote Vista in felt tip pen on the "Screen".

It amazes me how these so called MS fans can openly criticize the
previous version of an OS as if it's a real piece of crap when in fact
the opposite is true just because MS have now released a new system that
still has bugs and huge compatibility issues with hardware that MOST
users of the previous system could not work around without new hardware.

By all means buy a machine that will be Vista compatible, if anyone can
tell you what that is (The Microsoft guide is mostly no guide at all in
my experience so best to cross your fingers) which means a decent memory
(2 Gig minimum, 4 will do not harm even if XP can't use it all) and a
good Graphics card. Good = the most expensive you can afford, not on
board GFX.

Then install XP while you can still get it on one drive and consider
Vista (But always keep the XP drive) when MS have actually finished
writing it.

Oh, come on now.
I seriously doubt that you've counted all the responses to come up with
those figures.
Yes, there is a significant portion of Vista users who have gone back or
would like to go back to XP. Is it 50 percent of this group? Really no way
to tell, since users of this group tend to come in and out and you'd have to
have been keeping tabs since whenever it was this group was created.
