VISTA ASKING FOR DRIVERS

Hi,

I hope someone might be able to help:

I have an ACER laptop with 2GB RAM and an 80GB HD. Processor speed is 1.6

I have installed Windows Vista Ultimate and it went like a dream. Vista has now even installed the SP1

Problem is that every time I reboot, Vista asks ne for a driver for a "Mass Storage Controller:" - I do not even know what that is or where to find a driver?

In addition, the DVD is recognised in the Device Driver Listing correctly and it says it is working as expected, but unfortunately and DVD or CD I put in is not read

Are these linked in anyway and does anyone have any idea how I can repair or sort out this issue.

Thanks in advance

Acer doesn't make it easy to find anything on their site do they? It does
sound like the issues are connected as the DVD is a mass storage device.
Since you know what your equipment is better then I, you might have more luck
finding the driver you need then I did on the Acer site. That is where you
should go to find the driver you need.

The two are probably related: "Mass storage controller" is what they used
to call a harddisk controller, and CD/DVD drives are usually connected to
one.

Your best bet: go to Acer's website, see if they have any drivers for Vista
for this model laptop.

The DVD Drive in Devise Settings reads as ALL aOK?

Perhaps a new DVD Drive is needed?

Cheers

PS - I agree - Acer's site is not very easy to get what you need.....!

Cheers and thanks for any thoughts....

you said you installed ( Windows Vista Ultimate) , was that install with
a cd/dvd or from
a recover drive? if it was from the cd/dvd and you had no trouble then
i'd say it's not your dvd drive. did it work before the sp1 install? as
for the (Mass Storage Controller)
the drivers are on your motherboard install disk . so yes it would be
good to check for
the drivers at the ACER website. if your not sure of your motherboard
there's a program
called cpuz that can help you with all the info you need.

Actually, look at the drive controller, vice the drive. The drive probably
is okay, but the controller is where you are getting the driver error on.
Also, even if the device manager is saying everything is up-to-date, there
still may be newer drivers at the manufacturer. Even though it's not as easy
as Windows Update, it's always better to get your drivers from the HW
manufacturer anyway.

Good luck and regards,

Do you have anything always plugged into a USB port when you boot?
I'm not talking about a keyboard or mouse, and probably not even a printer.

I've seen various things listed as "mass storage" devices when plugged into USB, even digital cameras and a USB device I have that accesses Hi-Def television through an antenna.

So I'm thinking it might have something to do with USB.
