vista backup system and restoring

Hi, Ive been using windows vista to backup my pc every month.
I have used the standard settings and not custoised what i back up so it
backs up everything essential. I have my first full backup and then all the
other copies i done since (shadow copies) which are smaller than the
origional first backup i did because i assume its only backing up changes now.

However i need to restore these files now as i have just reintalled vista.
Do i need to restore all the files i backed up starting with the first one?

You want the latest backup. The only reason to use the others is if that
does not contain something you deleted, but want.
When you run Disk Cleanup, and remove 'all but the last restore point', you
would also remove all older backups.
