I did upgrade to home premium - did not work. Now I need to know if Windows
Vista Ultimate will work on my system
I have Vista Basic Edition. !!! Could 'Ultimate' cause same problem.
As I did purchased the 'home premium' I had to have my basic edition-
reinstalled because of my lack of knowledge. Home Premium system was not
suitable for the upgrade from Basic
So do not want to go through all that again.
can you help please

there is a thing called "Windows Anytime Upgrade" ...

who told you that you cannot upgrade from basic to home premium???

That is a compleatly valid upgrade path, see here for more info...
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...560d11033.mspx

as you can see it clearly shows that basic to premium is a valid upgrade
path!

You can run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor.. although this program is not
the best thing possible, it may give you some insight

See if your HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS meed the needs of a better vista

If they are of course you can upgrade to ultimate

Unfortunately, you haven't included any specifications about your
computer or information about why the upgrade failed. What exactly does
"Home Premium system was not suitable for the upgrade..." mean?

If your computer's hardware will only support Home Basic and not Home
Premium, it will not support Vista Ultimate. Without knowing more about
your computer, I can't be more specific.

Its pretty much likely that if Home Premium is not functioning well on your
system right now that it will be same case for Vista Ultimate. Give us some
more information such as your System Specs, when did this error start
occurring. Did you try a clean install, what is not working specifically?

On what model of computer? For many models, you need to download
drivers and other software from the manufacturer and install them during
the upgrade to make the upgrade complete successfully.
