Vista Blue Screen on Start Up

I have Vista Home Premium on a self-build PC that was working fine for
months. It crashed during a Windows Update, and now every time I start it,
it shows the blue screen with a stop code of 0x000000124.

I cannot find any way round it - safe mode crashes on start up too. It
shows Loading Windows files then lists a whole load of files finishing with
crcdisk.sys and then the screen goes blank and then blue screen appears.

I put in the original installation DVD and it displays a page "Windows is
loading files..." and progress bar then the Microsoft copyright screen with
the green progress bar and then goes into blue scren (exactly like normal
booting)
I've tried safe mode with command prompt - I just never get far enough to
take control of the machine to be able to work out what is going on.

Even if I want to do a reinstall I can't get a prompt to do that (when I put
the intallation DVD in as I've mentioned above it still seems to boot Windows
instead of offering me a chance to install.

I haven't installed anything or plugged anything different into it that
wasn't there yesterday (except for the failed Windows Update).

How can get out of this?

Have you tried last known good configuration?

As to reinstalling, go into the BIOS and alter the boot order so the optical
drive is ahead of the hard drive. If that still fails to allow the
installation to begin, remove all bootable devices from the list except the
optical drive until the first reboot.

I cannot get a clean boot from CD. I have put CD first in the boot sequence
and then taken everything else off, and although it starts booting from CD
(Windows is Loading Files) it seems to revert to using the disk after a while
(CD light goes out, hard disk is whiring away) and eventually it puts up the
Windows copyright line with the green progress bar and after that I'm back to
the same BSOD.

Using last known configuration doesn't make any difference.

You may need to clean the optical drive with a lens cleaner disk.
Alternately, it may have failed or be failing, at least to the point where
the data stream is interrupted. Reseating cabling may help too.

this is also happening to me.. even if try to boot from cd the
bluescreen appears... can you please your fix for this?
