I was asked to look at an HP DV6609 laptop with a boot error "loadkey failed
with error 3 (STHIVE#0)" Nothing on the internet or Technet. Has anyone else
seen this?

Since it is a boot error, you know it has nothing to do with Vista. Contact
HP tech support.

I solved the problem!!!!! Using an undelete application I found that the
config directory was deleted from the c:\windows\system32 directory.
Recovered deleted files and the system now boots.
