I use the standard admin account but changed the name. I added a login
password and now each time I boot to the screen one would receive if
they had tried to login in with an incorrect password. This is before I
have attempted to login.

Try to create another administrator account and let know us about
results.

I use the standard Admin account as my own. Renamed it and added a
password. I think I may have just figured it out although for the life
of me I can't remember where I was. Essentially there was a checkbox
having something to do with user control and having to enter password.
The meaning to me seemed that it may have been trying to auto log me in
without a password because it wasn't told to ask for one. In doing so
it was getting it wrong (because I had a password set up) and so the
error. On checking this box all was corrected.

Do you use built-in Administrator account?-You shouldn't do that.Use
System Restore to back to any previous point and then disable builtin
Administrator account and work on yourself account.

I do use the built in admin account. I had changed the name to my name
and added a password. I have done alot since the beginning. Moved
Docs, Music, Video etc to D drive, added Internet Security etc. I do
not want to have to redo all of that. Shounds like you are saying that
I should set myself up as a standard user. Is that the case - even if I
am the only user of this pc? Is so - how can I do that and still own
all of the work that has been done and not make any major changes?
Thank you.

Yes you have to create standart administrative account. You can move
almost all settings. When you create new account copy all folders (but
not junctions 'NTFS junction point - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_junction_point) ) from
*C:\User\<builtin admin> *to *C:\User\<your new admin>* and replace
exist folders. In this way you save your data and applications settings

PS.
Remember you can't replace NTUSER.DAT,NTUSER.* and junctions
-otherthise you may have trouble...

Why not use built in admin account? I have read conflicting opinions on
this. Some say that as long as I assign a password to built in admin
and I am the only user of the pc that there is no reason to operate
under another user account.

At intallation I am asked for my name and then it turns me into a
administrator. I then changed myself to a standard account and left th
admin account on it's own. Working out well so far
Curious about one thing though - When I named my pc at this point i
allowed no special characters nor did it allow me to name the pc th
same as I named a user. But later I was able to change the pc name t
the same as a user without issue. Why is that
