Good Day,

I purchased a new system from Dell which was or is Vista Ultimate. My
problem started when I noticed that no where could I find anything say that
it was SP1. I have downloaded updates from the windows update site and in
there I did not see anything about SP1 being needed to be installed. Is
there some way to confirm what version RTM or SP1 I have? Like what is the
original build or what is the SP1 build if I do Ver from the CMD.

thanks
Adam Raff

Open Windows Explorer

Go to Organize - Layout and click Menu Bar. Now you will see your menu bar.

Go to Help - About Windows

SP1 is Version 6.0.6001.

Now there is something to note about Vista SP1. If you don't have the
updated drivers on some hardware than Windows Update will not offer SP1.

Read more info here

I would like to thank all of you for your help in this matter, as you could
tell I know nothing of Vista yet, I am from XP and it is really different
then XP so for those who had patience, thanks.

It seems the Dell sent me a system without SP1 installed. Which I cannot
understand why but with the other minor issues that I have been having with
Antivirus and two program files directory in a 32 bit OS it makes me wonder
if this image was bad or somebody tried to downgrade it from a 64bit version
to a 32bit version and did not due it right, then sent it out without QC it.

The KB article helped and I was able to get SP1 at least to show up in
Windows Updates after I followed some of the steps. It seems that I had an
update that did not come down yet. Once that came down and installed, SP1
showed up in the list of updates that could be installed.

Thank you again for your help

Have a great Holiday

Glad that you got it figured out. Just wanted to let you know that I don't
think any manufacturers are actually shipping their laptops with SP1. I have
no idea why but that has been my experience.

Toshiba doesn't even have the SP1 compatable drivers for most of their brand
new laptops.

Cheers,
Lara
