I have recently purchase Vista (from XP) and am jointed to a Server 2003. I
am having trouble logging-in and when I attempted to log-in I got the
message, "The system can not access the Credential Manger Server". I tried
logging on with the local admin account, but it tells me it is disabled, and
I tried disconnecting the computer from the network and then trying to logon,
but I get the message, "The server is not responding properly. Verify that
the Credential Manager server is properly installed on the target server."

Can anyone help me out. I can't log in at all. Thanks.

Hi Kathy!
I don't want to assume but I will assume you upgraded your XP Pro
machine which was already talking to the Win 2003 Server and then you
upgraded to Vista? This error makes me think to check the 2003 server
and see if the Credential Manager Server service is started. I think
this is needed with Vista. You can find the services in windows 2003
Server by clicking Start > Run > services.msc then click ok.

Hope this helps!
Raj

Hi rajinisback,

I have been running Vista for a month now, without any problems (IT people
set it up for me). It was just yesterday that I received this message all of
a sudden. I went to services on the 2003 server - don't see Credential
Manager Server Services listed (assume it would be listed as
"Credential.....".). There are other people in my office running XP - same
server. Any other ideas?

Hi,

I just purchased HP Compaq 6510b (VISTA Business OEM). After using i
for two weeks, I could not suddenly login to Windows 2003 Domain (Coul
not Access Credential Manager). If I start in "safe mode with Networ
Support", I can login with network account. It seems to me that it'
some HP Service like fingerprint software or whatever. I a
investigating about.

"The Server is not responding properly. Verify that Credential Manager
Server is properly installed on the target server"

Ok this error is a software error which i found out the hard way. You
need to open HP ProtectTools Security manager Then through there
disable your Bio Finger scan cause all it does it cause a load of
drama's when dealing with windows Vista and server 03. I am fixing a HP
Compaq 6710b laptop and it worked for me gl to you all.

I have the same problem.

I'm a network admin for a poor underfunded school. The children woul
love to use their computers oh yes, but SOME $#@^#@^#@&#@%$$#
@#%!@^$#@^!#@^#@^$#@^$@$#^ VISTA $#@^$@^@ and som
$#@^@##^@$#$#@$#@^$#@ HP BRILLIANT MINDS GOT TOGETHER.

The merging of the HP 6515b and Vista is the most horrific combinatio
ever conceived. I should slay these computers on a sacred altar whil
covering myself in Holy Water. THIS MODLE SHOULD BE NAMED THE "666."
WHAT A PILE.

Ok- now that my blood pressure is returning to normal let's get to m
problem.

I too cannot log in on any account unless I go into safe mode. Then
decide to disable the credentials manager - > specifically th
fingerprint reader as 23587250723032 kids have used the thing and th
HP engineer probably didn't expect that to happen when he programme
that "feature" into this fetid product.

Anyway - I'd love to disable it all, but it keeps giving me errors tha
"The Security Manager doesn't want to do that right now" or "Can't b
contacted." GET THE ****ING THING OUT OF BED GOD DAMMIT IM THE GO
DAMN ****ING ADMIN AND I CANT EVEN LOG IN MY OWN ****ING COMPUTER YO
PIECE OF ****. **** YOU HP AND **** YOUR MOTHER BILL GATES. WE WER
BETTER OFF WITH XP BUT NOW WE CANT EVEN BUY IT BECAUSE YOU IDIOTS WAN
TO FORCE US WITH THIS ****.

**** **** **** **** **** IM GOIN TO GO **** ON THIS COMPUTER

/SLAM.

I figured it out finally. After I laid waste to my surroundings I
collected myself. Leveraging my bloated cranium and tired arms I sat
back down at the computer.

HERES WHAT YOU DO TO RID YOURSELF OF THIS PROBLEM.

Login as a local administrator in SAFE MODE
Go to services and DISABLE everything that starts with HP

Reboot the system. Hit f10 while it's starting and disable the
security settings (the second colum halfway down). You'll have to
configure a password to do it for some reason.

Anyway, then you should be able to login on the local admin in
NON-SAFEMODE.

then go START- > HP PROTECTTOOL SECURITY MANAGER - >Credential Manager
-> SETTINGS and DISABLE CREDENTIAL MANAGER. Just for fun I disabled
the multifactor authentication (by enabling password only) under
Credential Manager -> MULTIFACTOR AUTHENTICATION.

Woot! You made it. I hope this saves someone 2 hours.

Rejoice.

This problem started for me thios morning, and after searching Google
for a while on the issue (including here) I contacted our corporate HP
acct manager for assistance - the fix is simple, it worked, and I
thought I would share it for anyone else with the issue...

> Start in safe mode and log on as a local admin
> Start device manager and look under 'Security Devices' for 'Trusted

Platform Module' - Right click and select uninstall
> Reboot and allow the module to auto-reinstall itself

You should now be able to logon without receiving a credential manager
error. Depending on the versions of Vista and TPM you are running you
might have to re-register any finger scans you had stored. The problem
is the driver becomes corrupted.

Good luck!

Interesting. This sounds like your HP contact has run into this before; is
s/he saying that corruption of the TPM drivers is a well-known, frequent
problem or one that was remembered because it was so unusual?
