I was just at Dell.ca and found that a Inspiration 530 with Vista is cheaper
than one with (Free) Ubuntu.

Dell Inspiration 530 with E2160, 250 GB HD, 2 GB ram 16X DVD, Vista Home
Pre. & 19" Monitor $599.00

Same Insperation 530 with only 1 Gig ram & Ubuntu is $579.00 + $70.00 to
upgrade the ram to 2 Gig's = $649.00

Not much of a deal.

Vista will be cheaper than Ubuntu. Let's say you buy the Ubuntu box. After
a week of messing with it and figuring out that it doesn't run any decent
programs, you will have to purchase Vista. Might as well just get Vista to
begin with.

Since Frankie Boy bases the "value" of an operating system on its price, I
guess that Dell recognizes that when you purchase a computer with Ubuntu,
you're getting a superior product and hence they charge more.

Cheers.

So, build your own or don't you know how? If you build your own, you
definitely will save money by using Ubuntu instead of Vista.

Now, the reason that Dell charges more for Ubuntu vs Vista is simple.
With Vista, they get paid to install trial crap programs such as Norton,
McAfee and Roxio. Use your fricking brain instead of your biased
feelings against Ubuntu.

Now you speak for others? Try sticking to your opinion rather than
trying to come off as some kind of mind reader of everyone else.

The point is that Dell is charging you for a free product. The computer
should cost less. Also if you want support for Ubuntu they charge you more
yet.

Not a mind reader. Just speaking from experience and from talking to
others. Lots of people try Ubuntu and them throw it to the wind after they
realize that its a Piece O Crap.

Remember Ubuntu is FREE and people are just not flocking to it. What does
that tell you?

Seems to me that Dell will have a better PROFIT margin on the Ubuntu PC's
than ones with an MS OS installed.
