Hi Everyone,

My Grandson who is in college said to wait for the Microsoft comes out with
the service package. I asked him how would we know? He said they will let us
know. I wonder how will they let us know?

Question: How will we know when the 1st service package be issued?

I am running 98SE since 2000.

TIA

Angel

You can go to the Microsoft site and they will have a message on their main
page or come back to this forum. There will be hundreds of posts about it.
Probably because it will screw up Vista even more! (Hope not!)

Angel;
When Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista is released, it will be all over
these newsgroups.
Additionally it will be on Microsoft's website.
The release will be hard to miss.

SP-1 is expected to be released the 1st half of 2008.

The release of a Service Pack is not a very good indicator of a good
time to upgrade although many use it.
First it is more important to check the Windows Vista compatibility of
all your essential hardware and software.

Microsoft is always striving to improve the quality of there products.
Windows Update is one of the great examples of this effort, since its
implementation, Microsoft has continually improved the service to deliver
improved experience for Windows, software and hardware devices. Windows
Vista SP1 is currently in testing as of this writing. It is expected to be
released sometime in the first quarter of 2008.

"Service Pack", actually (not to mock you, just to make it easier for
you to find in Google)

Vista users will know because there are good odds it will be offered via
Windows Update. Beyond that, the online media won't shut up about it
for a good week, as well as these newsgroups, and Microsoft's own
newsletters if you're signed up.

I'd hazard a guess that if you do a search for "Vista" in Google News
every couple of weeks, you couldn't possibly miss it.

FWIW I have found Vista very much better than win98se (on new hardware),
much more reliable and stable.

Win98 applications often don't work very well on Vista, however you can
install MS Virtual PC and run Win98 and win98 appications in that.

I don't think there's any point in waiting. So long as the hardware and
your applications are compatible, it'll be just fine.

I've been running Vista since February. It started out rather buggy,
although it never crashed, and now it's good and solid for me.

There are still some things that need fixing, but I would say: why wait?
What have you to gain? You might as well get the use of it now. It will
get better all the time with the various updates that keep coming, and SP1
will no doubt improve it again.

But I would say there is no point at all in waiting.
