Vista Complete Backup image 'not found' when trying Advanced Resto

I am trying to do a individual restore of some files contained in a complete
backup image that I created about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, Windows
Backup/Restore cant see this image even after I confirmed the backup was
successful and the image is in the WindowsImageBackup\<Machine Name> folder
on my external USB/Sata HD. Yet, even after this confirmation, a scan of this
HD by Windows Restore does not find the image.

Is there any way to open this backup to retrieve the files I need? I see a
few others have had the same issue. I am really starting to dislike the
Windows Backup/Restore process.

Individual files are not able to be restored from Complete PC Backup, "Back up
Computer", (it is an imaging application -- to restore your computer to a
previous state).

To restore individual files and folders you use "Back up files" (top option).

Right - I am using 'Advanced Restore'. Are you saying because I did only a
complete PC Backup, I cannot restore using Advanced restore off that backup
image? Doh!...

There "might" be...but I am not aware of how to do it.

There was a discussion here some time ago, but I don't remember the details
since I use both backup options.

You might try using the MSDN backup blogs to see if there is a solution.
