can only but reset the computer for windows to respond again .

i checked Reliability & performance monitor and it shows my performanc

4.95 also word crashed yesterday due to the spell checker no
responding i've just tried to open task scheduler and it comes u
with the following error messages

Hi

It's worth checking that nothing nasty has invaded your pc

Download the free Avast home edition from her

'www.avast.com' (http://www.avast.com

Then turn off your internet connection, uninstall your existin
Antivirus. You have McAfee I believe - you should visit their websit
and get their own uninstalling tool

Install Avast, reconnect to the net , update avast and do a thoroug
scan

Also worth doing the same with free Spybot S&D from her

'www.safer-networking.org' (http://www.safer-networking.org

Hope this help

Hi, just thought i would report back about the problems in the past
they seem to be solved .

I solved the problems by first of all removing McAfee & my compute
started to speed up, then i installed avast! anti virus, did a scan & i
did not find any viruses or malware . I have also removed som
start-up programs, my computer is very fast now (the way it shoul
be. lol). lastly my disk space left has also increased & is only a 1/
full

Anyway, Thanks for your Help ;

Hi,

I can't recommend the program you linked to , but I have tried both the
free Galryutilities which includess a disk space analyser, from

'www.glarysoft.com' (http://www.glarysoft.com)

Also Ashampoo WinOptimiser 2009 has a disk space explorer , among
other utilities, also free from

When you run it, tick get full product key, it takes you to their site,
and they give you a free key.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help SIW2,
I will use use the suggested utilities to defrag my hardrive in the
future

Just a reminder all the problems are solved, except the task scheduler
errors, but i can live with that. I'm running the command line defrag
now.
Is it better to use the suggested defrag utilities or Vista's cmd?

My Command Prompt is showing this:

> Windows Disk Defragmenter
> Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corp.
>
> Defragmentation report for volume C:
>
> Volume size = 114 GB
> Free =66.26 GB
> Largest free space extent = 29.67 GB
> Percent file fragmentation = 6 %
>
> Note: On NTFS volumes, file fragments larger than 64MB are not
> included in t
> he fragmentation statistics
>
>
>

Is it still doing something or has it finished?

Sorry about all the questions

Hi,

The Windows defragger is set to run on low priority, so you can work
over it. Many people prefer to use a 3rd party one, as they're usually
quicker.

The one built into the Ashampoo program is pretty quick and seems to do
a good job, so you could try that as you already have it.

The one in the Glary program is actually a registry defragger - you
need to restart your computer for those to work, so if you're going to
use that as well, perhaps best to do that at the end.

Hope this helps
