This past weekend, there were 5 CRITICAL Vista updates from Windows Update...
I don't remember the #s, I know they had to do with Broadcom, Nvidia,
quicklaunch links, and I can't remember the others... On my first laptop, my
video display started acting funny, then I lost my wireless card.. was not
even in the Device Manager, orange light on, HP wireless assistant stopped
showing; brought it into BestBuy and they have shipped it out for service.
On the other 2 laptops at home, I tried installing these updates, and both
PCs literally DIED. I had to do a System Recovery on both laptops. Can
anyone tell me what happened with these latest updates? Makes me leary of
doing any more updates.

There's no need to be *leery* of Critical Security updates. What you
stated were ' 5 CRITICAL Vista updates ', *specifically* Broadcom and
Nvidi, were Recommended driver updates. You should open Windows Updates
in the Control Panel and UNcheck the bottom pane to opt the system out
of OPTIONAL Recommended updates.
In the future, obtain driver updates from the manufacturer's of the
hardware via their web sites.

Change how Windows installs or notifies you about updates

Thank you MowGreen, I will do this. However, they all showed as Critical.. I
swear it.. and it showed that on all 3 of my laptops - even my Pc Health
Advisor software had the 5 CRITICAL updates on the screen. I wouldn't have
done them if they weren't critical. I have had other PC techs tell me in the
past to NEVER do the windows udpate which seems to me to be foolish... but
after the heck I went through this weekend...
