Vista deletes folder instead of file

I've highlighted files for deletion within a folder but sometimes the dark
highlight turns to a lighter, grayed out color. Pressing DELETE then causes
entire folder to get trashed.

Come on MS - your supposed to be smarter than that.

Hi,

It means you've changed the focus by clicking something outside the files
within the folder, say the address bar or navigation pane.
