Vista - how do you restore default behaviour for Zip (other) file types?

Hi all,

I broke my nice clean re-installation of Vista Ultimate after hours of
effort. Major bummer.

Perhaps I'm overly tired and have been looking for a solution too long
(nearly 1am here - 6 hours later . I can't find a simple way to 'undo' or
'reverse' (whatever you call it) the way that Vista's explorer handles ZIP
files.

I'd like to fix things so that when I see a ZIP file in explorer the icon
looks as it did originally (a neat little zipped folder). I'd like the
context menu (right click) option of being able to extract the file to ...
wherever. And I'd like to look inside the ZIP file ... without causing
explorer to crash and burn all the time.

I've used ZIPGENIUS (quite a useful utility ...
http://www.zipgenius.it/eng/index.php) quite happily for a few years.
Although it is a free utility, it works as designed and gets the job done
well.

For some reason, I decided against including the program in my pristine
installation ... ready for saving as a cloned image. I noticed that the ZIP
files no longer had either the Zipgenious icon or the default Vista icon.
Also, when I paused the mouse over the file ... Vista (explorer) crashed.
No reason given ... most of the time and not all of the time.

This should be a trivial matter ... returning Vista to its default file
handling procedure but it's beyond me. Never been brilliant at playing
around in the registry ... as in, things work better when I leave it alone
I found the following (file called: zipfix_vista.reg) in WinHelpOnline
(www.winhelponline.com) and it's repeated across a number of alternate
sites: same file name and so far as I can tell, the same registry entries.

Before I potentially make things worse, could someone please point me
towards a website / reference that shows us how to restore Visa to it's
default file handling ways? I'm not clever enough to tell if the registry
entries (below) are the 'solution' or a disaster in waiting.

All help gratefully accepted

Kindest regards,

Mike

In the Run box (WinKey+R), type
regsvr32 zipfldr.dll
