i'm using windows vista home premium and i installed windows live messenger
8.1. when i started the program, msnmsgr.exe, it runs in tasks but not
executing, which means nothing happens in visual sense.

according to ad-aware se, spybot and avast i have got no known virusus or
spywares in my pc. i am using latest flash plug in 9.04. and i am not using
an acer computer and the acer edatasecurity management is not installed also.

when i uninstall the latest version of msn live messenger and installed msn
messenger 7.5 or 8.0 it executes. works perfectly fine until i got the
message "you must install the latest version of msn messenger" than due to
order when it installs the latest version, it does not execute again. when i
open the windows task bar and look at the process i see msnmsgr.exe and when
i order to close the program nothing happens.

what is the problem and how can i solve it?

Greetings,

Firstly, you should update to Windows Live Messenger 8.5 as it's a far better release than
8.1 for Vista purposes:
http://get.live.com/WL/all
As a sidenote, only 8.1 and 8.5 are allowed as connectable clients on Vista, which is why you
get the upgrade message.

Secondly, if you're still seeing the problem, what you're generally describing is a problem
with Messenger and a router on your local network. Assuming you do have a router, you may
need to either reset it (unplug it and plug back in) and/or upgrading its firmware to the
latest version from the router manufacturer.

jonathan thank you for your kind answer and please accept my apologies for i
reply your message so late due to circumstances,

i have checked my router and my local network with another pc, operated by
windows vista home edition, using both windows live messenger 8.1 and 8.5,
and seen all of them are perfectly fine, they are working very well, they
both execute windows live messenger.

i do what you suggest to do, downloaded windows live messenger 8.5 and
installed it. windows defender prevented msn live messenger to run in the
start up programs, so i removed it.

let me clearify the problem again,

even when my pc is not connected to any network it does not execute msn
messenger. when i open the task manager it operates it in processes and does
not execute, it does not seen in tasks with the status "running"

secondly, when i start the program, i cannot close it even when i order to
end it.

thirdly, the windows messenger is allowed through windows firewall.

if you need another datas to define or solve to problem i can send you a
hijackthis log file too.

thank you for your help,

best wishes
