I connected my new Fujitsu-Siemes Storagebird 1Tb HD and my Vista PC didn't
recognise it. 2 computers running XP work fine with it. Fujitu-Siemens
recommendation was to re-install Vista which I have done, and I still get
the same message. What can I try now?

The message I get is ' USB device not recognised' from a bubble from the
systray

Your USB port that the external HD is connected to is not enabled. That is why the message. Enable the USB port in question. There is NO NEED to re-install Vista

Can you explain what you mean by 'enabled'. I have used many different USB
devices on all my USB ports and they all give the same message with this
device.

The HD gives ther message on all 6 ports and lots of USB devices work fine
on all the 6 ports.

If the port is not enabled surley it wouldn't work with other USB' devices?
Its works fine with other USB devices. How would I know which of 8 USB Root
Hubs showing in Device Manager would be one of the front ones.

Do you have another USB device you haven't used on this computer before? I
ran into the problem that seemed related to too many unique devices. Once I
reached a point of the problem, nothing new would be recognized. I did have
it go thru the driver search routine though.

The short answer is that you need to install the drivers for it.

In an ideal world Vista would do this automatically, but in reality it often
needs a helping manual hand.

I bought exactly the same hard drive (Fujitsu-Siemens 1tb Sotragebird
Solo 35-UB) and am having exactly the same problem. Vista Home Basic
does not recognise it. It works fine on other XP systems. I rung
Fujitsu-Siemens who said there was nothing they could do other than
advise I have it replaced! But it Vista is not going to recognise even
the replacement, what's the point?!

Are there any solutions to this problem?

Someone please help! Thanks
