Vista Errors 0x80004005 & 0x800704c8

Frequently when I copy files (from C: to C:, from C: to another drive,
or from another drive to C, I get one or both of the following
errors:

0x800704c8
0x80004005

If I press "Try Again", it always works, but it's a real pain when I'm
trying to copy large quantities of files, because checking "Do this for
all future events" or whatever doesn't work.

What could be causing this? I'm running Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

Thanks!

You need you to give more information Those errors are in Vista's Event Log
of off of Control Panel/Admin Tools/Event Viewing ----- Application or
System.

You need to post the full text of the error messages.

Just using Google and looking at the first error code, it seems that your
anti virus program or possible Live One is causing problems when scanning
files. The second message may be a cascading message (it's going to happen
no matter what error message) due to the first error

Thanks. I seem to be getting this error a lot:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Database\WinSS_st.edb
(2392) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare
Live\Database\WinSS_st.edb: A bad page link (error -327) has been
detected in a B-Tree (ObjectId: 13, PgnoRoot: 59) of database
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Database\WinSS_st.edb
(259 => 577, 578).

That's the only one that seems to relate. How would I go about
diagnosing problems with One Care?

I don't know what to tell you. I have found nothing about this using Google.
The best I can tell you is to shutdown One Care and see if One Care is
really the problem when you copy some files.

If it's a must, and I hate to say this if you're not under the Vista limited
free support is get on the phone with MS and let them help you correct the
problem. If you have a sold AV solution, you might want to just shutdown One
Care, if One Care is the problem.

Maybe, someone else will post some possible things you can do.

I would shutdown One Care and the AV and see if the problem stops. And then
I would enable each solution one at a time and do some file copies to try to
pin point what is doing it. I think you're in the area of One Care or the AV
is doing this.

0x800704c8 is pretty straightforward. This means means
ERROR_USER_MAPPED_FILE - The requested operation cannot be performed on a
file with a user-mapped section open. You're trying to copy a file which is
"memory-mapped"; in basic terms, an application has the file held open. You
would need to shut down the application which is using the file, before it
can be copied.

*.edb files are Jet database files. Jet is an internal database used by
Windows for many components, such as Active Directory, DHCP, WINS, and -
apparently - OnceCare. The Jet database engine uses memory-mapped design, so
that's pretty consistent. You may need to shut down all OneCare processes
before you can touch the *.edb files.

0x80004005 is STIERR_GENERIC, a generic error message from the "Still Image
Device" interface. This is used by device drivers for scanners, faxes,
cameras etc. Not sure why you're getting it but I'd say it is related to
some such device.

Unless of course, that error is not 0x80004005, but actually 0x80040005:
ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED "Access is denied". Which would make a lot more sense -
you're trying to copy a file for which you don't have permission. In Vista,
even if you are logged in as a Administrator, you do not have a full
Administrative token unless you get explicitly elevated to perform
administrative actions, either by UAC prompt or by doing a "run as
administrator".

Hope it helps,
