Vista Filepicker crash

I'm having on-going but random problems with the Vista SP1 filepicker dying
and taking its application with it. The failure happens at the instant the
filepicker is taken into a subdirectory, but is unpredictable and not
reproducible in a given subdirectory. It happens with various applications
(browsers, editors), and leaves no message in the systems logs.

I'm at a bit of a loss to know where to look. AFAIK, this started after
installing SP1.

Any help would be welcome.

Andrew

OK. Now you just need to explain exactly what "file picker" is?

I hope it doesn't have anything to do with picking his seat

I mean the file open dialogue box which applications fire up when looking for
a file. The crash is quite consistent across several applications - at the
instant of browsing into a directory, the dialogue reports words to the
effect of 'explorer has stopped working' and the application disappears.
However, it is not reproducible - it may or (probably) may not crash on the
next occasion in the same directory.

I thought the term filepicker was in common use - this type of problem was
quite widely reported in the run-up to Vista's launch, but I haven't seen
recent reports.

What's the fault bucket information according to the Problem Reports and
Solutions Center control panel?

Thanks, I think (I hope) this pointed me in the right direction.

A number of the hangs were attributed to the wl_hook.dll module, which is
internal to the Agnitum Outpost firewall, something which I had uninstalled
from Vista months ago. The code was still on disk (for my separate XP
installation) and it seems was still being loaded.
