Vista forgets Power Settings

Hi guys. I'm having an annoying issue with Windows Vista.

Basically, I have altered my power settings so that the computer does
not enter sleep mode after 20 minutes. However, I have to change this
setting from "20 minutes" to "never" every single time I boot my
computer, even though I pressed "Save Settings" each time.

What could be causing this?

Kind Regards,

Matt

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit) with SP1. I changed the sleep
setting for the balanced power plan from 15 minutes to never, saved it and
rebooted. The sleep is never.

Hello Matt,

See if Vista will remember your changes after resetting the Power Plans
back to default.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the reply.

Sadly as soon as I rebooted this morning the power setting was back to
"Balanced" which has the 20 minute sleep mode setting. I have tried
just changing the settings within the "Balanced" mode, but they always
revert back to their defaults after a reboot.

Anything else I can try?

Kind Regards,

Matt

I am unable to re-create your problem. My Vista Ultimate 64 bit version with
Service Pack 1 remembers whatever settings I put in. Do you have SP1
installed?

Hi Matt

You may also run a "sfc /scannow" command to see if it can find and fi
any bad system files that may be responsible for this

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66...fc-command.htm

Hope this helps

Many thanks for the responses guys.

I gave that a go, and it came back with loads of things that needed
repairing. However, it still hasn't fixed the problem

Kind Regards,

Matt

I have the same problem with Windows Vista Business with SP1. Creating my
own power plan also reset to default after rebooting. I hope someone can
help.

Hello Ewingr,

If you are having the same problem as Matt with the Power Plan setting
not being remembered, then you might see if resetting all Power Plan
back to default and setting them again afterwards can help

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-settings.htm

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63...e-problems.htm

Hope this helps
