Hi

Is anyone out there that could help me. I have a sony vaio VGC-LA1. I've
upgraded the OS to Vista thanks to a free upgrade from Sony. However when I'm
shutting down the pc, it keeps saying logging off and then freezes. There's
very little on the pc as I had to get the hard-drive replaced. Used the
recovery disc back to its factory settings, then upgraded to Vista. Only
program that may be causing problems is Norton Antivirus? Also occasionally
the screen just goes black/grey. Any ideas what's happening here? And how it
can be resolved? Many thanks

Yes, the problem is probably being caused by Norton. Uninstall it and see.
If that solves your issue (and I'm guessing it will), don't reinstall it
because it's garbage. Recommended antivirus products are NOD32, Kaspersky,
or even Avast (free).

most likely caused by norton.

in the event logs you should find something to point to the culprit.

to properly uninstall niorton, you need to download the special uninstall program from the norton web site.

the standard uninstall does not remove it.

And even after using the special uninstall program, you
must go through the registry with the FIND and FIND NEXT
(f3) commands, seeking anything with Norton or Symantec
in the entry. Use judgment - it's like untangling a
bird's nest.

It takes an hour or more even if you're a professional,
but don't try sending them a bill. I did, once, and you
wouldn't believe the response! Good luck.
