Vista Freezes

I bought a new Dell Dimension 9200 a few weeks ago, with Vista
pre-installed, and ever since I have had frequent freezes. The mouse stops
working, the keyboard stops working, and the screen freezes. I simply wait
for 30 seconds to a minute and suddenly everything is working again.

On one of the freezes I got a message that the display adapter had stopped
working and then recovered, so it seems that it is a display driver problem.
I have just installed the latest nVidia driver, 100.65, but it is still
happening.

Has anyone else had this problem?

If you check the Technical Support forum on www.worldofwarcraft.com they have
a list of devices that have issues and the known work arounds.

Nvidia just recently posted an updated "beta" driver (101.41) which fixed
quite a few issues. I would check to see if it covers your particular issue
(http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_101.41.html).

We bought two identical Dells, one was left with the
preinstalled version the other was wiped and had a fresh
install.

The preinstalled version suffers from the display adapter
problem, the other doesn't.

That is interesting Jan. I telehoned Dell Support who got me to disable the
USB Controller in the BIOS, but that did not help. Another person has
suggested I disable the RAID Controller in the BIOS, but I haven't tried
that as I get a warning message that my computer may not boot and may
require a reinstall. I think that it is a display adapter fault. There is
quite a bit of discussion on the nVidia forum about it.

Try the March 07 release of the nVidia SATA driver.
