New SP1 of Vista Installed. Gadgets listed on the
vista.gallery.microsoft.com will not install after hitting Download ->
Install -> Open -> Run. After hitting Run, the dialogs go away but nothing
is installed into the running sidebar. BTW: This also happens on my Vista
Laptop.

Thanks!

This happens to me with certain gadgets, too. The solution is to save the
gadget somewhere (like your desktop) and open it from there. Then you may
delete the file. Keep in mind, you only need to use this method with gadgets
that don't work with the "open" method.

Please rate helpful if applicable.

The downloaded gadget file is actually a ZIP file renamed. So if you
rename it and give it a .ZIP extension after you DOWNLOAD instead of
installing it, then unzip it to Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets
into a folder with the same name as the Gadget file (see the folders
there for an example), then when you hit the "+" sign at the top of the
Sidebar, the gadget will show up in there and you can try installing
from there.

Hi Guys,

Did this work ??????

I've got exactly he same problem !!!!!

How do you rename the files ? I've tried going into properties & changing
the name but it still seems to associate the file(s) with SIDEBAR ?

Many Thanks,

Peter

literally put .zip at the end of the gadget name when you download i
and change the type of file to all files instead of windows sidebar fil
and it will automatically associate to whichever unzipping program yo
are using on your compute
