I'm an IT professional. My network manager and myself have been using Vista
Business Tablet Edition for 7 months on very good hardware. Tried SP1 too.
Today, the aggregate of lost productivity just became unbearable. Over 7
months, more blue screens than can be counted, file copy problems,
application incompatibilities, hibernation problems, overall slowness, etc,
It just became too much.
We both wiped drives and installed WinXP. I haven't felt so relieved in a
long time. Microsoft really ought to offer FREE OS downgrade rights to
anyone who purchased this lemon product. Hey, we all make mistakes. The
best thing to do is to then make it right. Sincerely, Russell Roberts

"Over 7 months, more blue screens than can be counted, file copy problems,
application incompatibilities, hibernation problems, overall slowness, etc"

The leading causes of these problems are:
Hardware that is not fully Vista compatible, including BIOS versions.
Software drivers that are obsolete.
Application programs that should be run in compatibility mode.
Some really old application programs may need to be run via a DOS emulator
(nothing new here either)

Basically the same thing that has happened with almost every release of a
new windows version.
"Very good hardware" may have nothing to do with Vista compatibility. Past
successful operation with older Windows versions is also no indication of
Vista compatibility.

The software houses and hardware OEMs cannot make any money if customers do
not replace old equipment and software.

"I'm an IT professional"
Many "IT professionals" had the same opinion of XP and continue using
Win2K.
Prior to that many continued to use Win 3.11 for the same reasons.
(And so on)

Few IT professionals implement new windows versions until after the first
(or second) major update/bug fix is released and has been in use long enough
to know that the system is stable.

And, I don't particularly like Vista either.

....errrrrrrrrm surely it's Vista that isn't hardware/Bios compatible??????

but it has give me a great idea - write a peice of **** software that
doesn't work - and blame their computer for not being fully compatible with
it - you just can't write this sorta stuff he he he he

Reasonable points you make Chuck. I should have shared that the "very good
hardware" that I refer to is Fujitsu Lifebook T4220. 2GB RAM, Centrino Duo,
Purchased band new from Fujitsu with Vista Business preinstalled and updated
to the latest Fujitsu drivers. If Fujitu can't make pre-installed Vista work
satisfactory on their hardware, it's unlikely a business consumer can do
better.

That's my opinion. I do genuinely believe that Microsoft should do the
right thing and give all consumers who purchased Vista free OS downgrade
rights to a previous version.

Why do you think MS has the hots for Yahoo? It's the advertising money.
MS knows that Windows and Office are history and without those two cash
cows, MS would go out of business. Hence, they need to switch to online
advertising to stay alive.

Very good post and I agree with you totally.

Lost productivity in trying to fix Vista problems is immeasurable, even for
a home-user like me.

I just can't imagine how any business could justify installing Vista. It
offers no real benefits, yet a whole host of problems.

i join your opinion Russel ...

I dont blame Microsoft, but the point is than in market such as it is
you cant expect "perfect drivers, perfect hardware, perfect software..."
to be able to run OS - or can you?
so at least what they could do is option for free downgrade.

Imagine "perfect best new car machine" that is fastest on the world,
but it needs 982 humidity, 19,7 degree C, asphalt structure C2H6PO,
tyres temperature and hardnes exact, oil, all the trasfer parts exact,
driver weight, sunglases and beautiful blonde on the side of a driver to
achive that - so is it really fastest?

I have said it before... DESKTOP OS like we know them are HISTORY.
Especially freakishly built buggy fat pigs with lipstick like vista will
soon be things of the past.

A new era of computing is coming.. its called the CLOUD!

Hello, all you had to do is come in here and ask if vista is worth while.

I would have warned you to say away. Its a pig with lipstick, and the
lipstick is of bad color and stinks too.

As a professional I would have told you, but then again, you might have
not believed me if you didnt see How BAD vista really is on your own.

Now you know the truth, vista, even with SP1 is bad... and should be
avoided.

I hope you spread the word so that more people are saved before they
fall into the vista hype trap.

XP is the best and until windows7 proves itself, its the last good OS
from MICROSOFT.

Vista is just another windowsMe... and my personal opinion is that its
worst than Me could ever be, simply because vista causing more grief to
a larger amount of people as it is a "major" release.

Also, you would have to ask the traffic cop every time you wanted to change
gear or turn at a traffic light.
