Is Vista Going Away?

A friend of mine is ordering a new Dell PC with Windows XP installed instead
of Vista. He made this choice because he says Vista will be replaced due to
so many problems with it. Id there any truth to this? I am considering a new
PC and was planning to go with Vista, thinking it will be around for several
years. Now I am not sure what to do. I noticed there was a discussion
about this earlier, but it has been deleted. Charles Ranheim

Windows is in a never ending cycle of new versions. That's Microsoft
way. It has been the case since it's inception over 20 years ago. If
or not Vista is "better" than XP is hotly debated here and elsewhere.
It depends on what type of system you have, what you do with it, what
hardware you use and what software you install. Windows 7 which will
replace Vista (some day) is still at least a year off. Something in a
couple years after it's introduction will replace that and so on and
so on.

If you elect to go with Vista make sure your printer, scanner, etc..
is supported. If not you'll likely need to replace them or accept some
of their features may not work, if they work at all. If you go with XP
it's time is limited. It will be increasingly difficult to get newer
software for it. Also newer computers may not fully support XP. It's a
catch 22.

And just how is this remarkably stupid observation different than OSX and Linux?

It's not MS's way ... it's the way of the world.

It is best explained by the theory of economics called "The wheels of the
bus go round and round"

Is what I said true or not?

A more cynical view would be Microsoft executives, especially Steve
Ballmer are little more than scam artists. They don't develop
features, they hype the crap out of snake oil. Like Aero and UAC. It's
called MARKETING. They come up with "new" versions which is fact are
little more than updates of the past version. There is nothing new in
Vista that's radical, wanted or asked for. It for all practical
purposes is XP with a face lift. What was changed was ill conceived,
poorly designed and badly implemented.

Feel better now?

This group is divided into two camps. Morons like Frank that blindly
sing the praises of Vista because they're too damn dumb to know any
better and people that do know better and point out what's wrong.

Doesn't take a heck of lot of reading posts here to see which side is
smarter.

What is also true is the remarkable number of REALLY stupid posters
that make moronic comments. Yeah you Telstar. You're exhibit A.

Translation: ringbastard is too fukkin stupid and incompetent to get his
one little install of Vista Business to run properly.
He blames his failure on MS.
Suggestion: don't believe one word about Vista or MS from this apparent
loser.

HA

Why use that when vista is so fun and cool to use?

You don't have to deal with the crappy gray bar of death because of how
dreadful it is to look at that 24/7 when you can use the much updated
Aero interface from MS!!!

Anything OSX can do Vista can do as well or if not better by itself or
help of free or cheap 3rd party apps!

If you are talking about 32-bit Vi$ta, I would vote "yes".
