Vista Hangs at Logon

I think I'm going to have to call MS Professional Services over the problem
I'm having, but I was really hoping that someone here might be able to shed
some light on a hang on logon problem I'm having with Windows Vista Business
edition. We're in the process of migrating our company's workstations into
a Windows 2003 domain. Prior to this, all the systems (XP and Vista) were
operating in a workgroup model. The plan is to bring all the workstations
into the domain and have the users use Folder Redirection and Offline Files
to keep local copies of their files in sync with those on the network. This
configuration works without issue with the XP systems - there is a slight
delay on logon as local files are synced with the network versions, but
after that, logon is fast. The Vista systems on the other hand, all take 1
hour to complete their logon and logoff, every single time the workstation
is logged into using an account that uses folder redirection.

This problem has so far shown up on 3 of our Vista systems and as a result,
we've put a stop to the Vista migration. I really don't want to have to
install XP on these systems and in fact the plan was to eventually upgrade
everyone to Vista. There's nothing logged in any of the event logs other
than it took 3600 seconds to process a logon event, but there's no
indication as to why it took so long. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

DLN

Looks like I stumbled across the fix. The sync center was hung trying to
sync several files that the Sync Center process couldn't access (it reported
an Access Denied error). After deleting the files in conflict (several
desktop.ini and $RECYCLE.BIN files), and then forcing a re-sync, the very
long logon/logoff times disappeared. This strikes me as a serious bug - I
would have expected the process to skip over the file and try
synchronization on an intermittent basis - not tie up the system for an
hour. However, at least I can continue proceeding forward with the client
migration. Just an FYI if anybody ever runs into this problem.
