No! Please do not do this. If you were able to get this loaded, it's
very likely that it will do more than not work, and you won't like it.
Windows Fax and Scan for Vista is not available on any of the Basic or Home
editions. It's only on Business and Ultimate.

If your system is a new Dell, I would suggest that you contact Dell support
regarding availability of fax software.
If you google Vista Basic Fax, you will find information about other
options. Be aware that writing fax applications, or porting them to
another OS is not trivial, and with the declining Fax market there are fewer
of the needed highly skilled programmers available to do the work.

Apparently, there's a program called SnappyFax that has a 30-day demo and is
around $20, but I also see notes about install problems on Vista Basic.
The demo would be worth trying.
