Check this
'The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and
the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows
Vista' (http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;949358)

This sounds like you have some malware that is infecting your computer. If
you can open in safe mode and reach your antivirus program you can run a
scan. But if as you say you can't even get that far, you may have reached
that time that comes to many of us: you may have to use a recovery disk,
assuming you have one, and wipe your hard drive clean. I hope you have been
backing up all your data on a regular basis, because you will probably lose
the lot. I hate to sound like this and it would be wonderful if some kind
person with more knowledge than me can give you an easier get-out. But that's
what it sounds like to me.

Good luck!

Hi Rick,

When it restarts, hit F8 immediately after the initial post and before
Windows begins to load. This should get you the boot menu where you can
choose the last known good configuration. Once back in, install the updates
one at a time.
