Define problems. Just make sure that you can get Vista drivers for all the hardware you install.

I will be OK with the drivers.

Are there any difference between the OEM and the Retail versions?

Thanks

In previous versions of Windows, an OEM version would not do an update. It would only do a clean install. My guess would be that still holds true.

Another difference is the license. You are not legally allowed to
transfer the OEM version to another machine.

An OEM version is only intended for use on ONE machine and is NOT transferable to another. If you had to have your motherboard replaced for instance you would probably have a hard time convincing MS that you had not tried to install on another box - They might need proof for instance.
You also get almost ZERO support from MS (Not a massive problem IMO!) but you do get all updates etc. - The real restriction is the ability to transfer it to a newer box or a modified hardware list on the same box.

Those are, after all, the reasons for the price differential.

I have just built a new machine using an OEM Vista Home Premium bought from Komplett for £62.

You can avoid registering the software for about 3 months, which is probably a good idea incase you have hardware problems.

I'd say that the software is reliable enough for home use, but not for a major roll out.

There are compatibility issues particularly with old software from the last century (i.e. late 90s)!

You should check that there are drivers for any additional hardware that you want to use (i.e. modems, printers scanners etc)

1 x Asrock AM2NF6G-VSTA Socket AM2
2 x 1GB PC2-5300 Elixir DDR2 SDRAM
1 x Windows Vista Home Basic 64bit OEM
1 x Samsung 18x DL DVDRW BLACK 12x RAM
1 x 320GB Maxtor D/Max +21 SATA2
1 x Black PS2 Keyboard

What I really like about homebuilt PCs is that you can have exactly what you want! Mine is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
Asus P5B-V, G965, motherboard with onboard graphics.
Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC6400 1024MB CL4
Antec P160 Miditower, Silver,
Samsung SpinPoint T166 500GB SATA2
Logitech MX400 Performance Laser Mouse
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium OEM DVD 32bit
Sony Floppy Drive, 3,5" 1,44MB White
Antec Phantom 500W Fanless Stealth PSU
Sweex Internal 53 in 1 card reader USB
Sweex 1 port parallel & 2 port serial PCI card
NEC 20" LCD 1600x1200
Old IBM Enhanced Keyboard

All but the last four items came on one order from Komplett.
