Vista Home Orenium and Legacy software

I have a favorite program that no longer permits me to open the data file
since I upgraded to Vista. I can't even open the sample file that came with
it. The application installs and starts up OK. I go to File Open select my
file and click on open and nothing happens. I have tried "clean"uninstalls
and installs with all excess services and statups disabled. Nothing helps.
I have "run as administrator", set compatiblity to XP SP2 but nothing
changes. I installed on my laptop in XP SP2 and it runs just fine. The
publisher states it is their Vista compatible version and that they have many
customers running it with no problems. Any ideas as to what I can try.

Eileen,

It may be that your data files are located in a folder that now has
restricted access rights under Vista that your legacy program cannot
overcome.

Try using Windows Explorer to move your data files into your Documents
folder, then run your program and load the data from there.

All my documents are maintained on an external 500GB drive. The program
installs off c: root and not under program files. I followed your advice and
made sure that both databases (my data and the sample) gave me full control
and also the folders they were in. But same results--nothing happens.
