Hi,

Click start, type regedit and hit <enter> to open the registry editor.
Expand the branches and click on:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\Shell\Open\Comm and

Double click the (default) string value at right and replace the contents
with:

rundll32.exe ieframe.dll,OpenURL %l

(just copy/paste it from here, leave no spaces after the 1)

Click 'ok' and close the editor. Retry the shortcuts.

Do your shortcuts look the same as before, they just don't work ?

Is this just the shortcuts on your desktop, or is it the same when you
try a program from it's entry under All Programs in the start menu?

Do the programs all run fine from their .exe files ?

I had a similar issue. I was able to recreate the icons manually from
the .exe and other files. If you google a bit you will find others
with this same problem.

Go to the directory where the program is located. For example, for
MSOffice, you would look in c:\program files\MSOffice\Office10. Look
for the actual program files Excel.exe, Winowrd.exe, etc. Right click
on each item and choose "Send to desktop (Create Shortcut)". This will
send a new icon to the desktop. See if that works.

If the programs still don't work, try doubling clicking one of those
program files right in the directory where you find it. For example,
double click on Excel.exe. If Excel still does not start, you have a
different issue than the classic Vista broken icon problem.
