Go to the web site of modem chip set maker and see if there is a newer
driver and if so, install it manually. Being a new PC means nothing as those
drivers are most likely the one's that are STABLE from when they began
designing the computer. Quite frankly, so few people use modems any more
that I would suspect that all the computer maker cared about was that one
could connect to a dial up service. I haven't speced a modem on a computer
in about 8 years and I'm certain that is most other people's experiences as
well. My last two laptops have both had modems but I've never even fired
them up to see if they work.
