Hi,

I have 5 new Vista Home premium computers that I am having difficulty
networking to my server (Windows 2000 server) and also I'm having difficulty
having the vista computers communicate with each other. Already know not to
set it as a domain through active directory, they are already set as
WORKGROUP and I'm still having difficulty.

Thanks In Advance!

Home Premium can not join a Domain upgrade toBsiness or Ultimate to do that.
Below is a link fr Networking info

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.

Permissions/Share info is there as well.

If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer
sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall.

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) .

Hi,

Open the Network and Sharing Center on each Vista machine (just type it into
the search line), make sure that Network Discovery is enabled as well as
Public File sharing. If your shares are outside of the Public folders, then
you will need to enable standard file sharing as well.

Have you tried turning off IPv6? Do you get any error messages when you
try to access or find one machine from another?
