Vista Home Premium crashes

My system crashes for no apparent reason with the blue screen of death
message "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". It appears to crash when IE7 is loaded up.
It will crash while the system is idol. IE7 is on the screen and I will be
watching TV and the system will crash.

Number one cause would be a driver issue of some sort. IRQ requests
are usually hardware related. I'd try checking your device manager by
typing 'Device Manager' into the start search. When it loads up,
you'll have a list of all the hardware installed on your pc. If one of
the lists are expanded already, it indicates one or more devices under
that section is having driver related problems. You can also look for
generic placeholder drivers and try updating them to the offical/
manufacturer drivers. For example, you could upgrade 'High Def
Multimedia Control' to a 'Creative Xi-Fi Xtreme Gamer' card which
might work better then the 'default' driver Windows Vista would try
and use.

I would also be a bit curious to know Bart if this issue occurs when
you have an Internet Explorer window open with 'No Addons'.

Start Menu > Start Search for 'Internet' > Click on Internet Explorer
(No add-ons) at the top > Wait and see if crash occurs.

If the crash does not occur, it might be a third party addon(non-ms
software) thats been added to ie trying to access a peice of your
hardware or giving you some strange complications. In which case, you
could try disabling all your add-ons and slowly renable them half at a
time until you determine which addon is causing the problem.

Last suggestion, sorry, I didn't think of it in my previous posts may
be to run a Windows Memory Diagnostic test.

Hi Bart,

A Google search shows that it is probably a driver problem, in particular,
probablly a video driver issue. Did you happen to upgrade either your
video card, or it's driver recently? Did the BDOD give any further
information? I would also post this in the hardware Vista group, as
some really smart people hang out there.

Hi Bart,

This Stop message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver attempted
to access a memory address to which it did not have permission to access. It
might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a
backup tool that is incompatible with the new Vista version of Windows.

To get more information, do this:

- go to Control Panel
- click on System and Maintenance
- click on Problem Reports and Solutions
- click on Check for New Solution

If Microsoft recognises the specific crash you are seeing, it will tell you
how to fix it (contrary to popular opinion, this really does work on
occassion - I fixed at least one Vista issue, this way).

If Microsoft does not recognise the specific crash, it will now have your
problem report anyway, and can start investigating the error.

If Microsoft has no answer for you, click on View Problem History. You'll
see a record of all the crashes on your machine. Double click the most
recent crash to bring up the problem details. It's a good idea to include
these details when you contact anyone, or make any further posts, regarding
the issue. You can post the details back to this thread, if you like.
"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" is one of the most common Stop errors in Windows,
and has been caused by thousands of different buggy drivers, in the past. So
the only way to narrow it down to a specific problem is to have quite
precise information about the crash.

Thanks for the help. I loaded out the latest Nvidia driver and that seems to
have solved the problem.
