Anyone know of a way to enable multi cpu support in Windows Vista Hom
Premium? There has to be a way to alter the registry to accomplish thi
but I am not very registry editing savy. I would hate to spend even mor
money on upgrading to Vista Ultimate when I just purchased Vist
Premium

Vista supports multiple processors, as does XP.
The OS sees your multi-core uber chip as multiple independent CPUs.
Multicore CPUs are faster than equivalent single cores for the most part
because they can assign processors simultaneously to your productivity
program and the insatiable demands of the OS.
There is almost no software, however, that is truly multithreaded so adding
a second multicore CPU does zilch for actual performance with one exception.
The exception is for a server in a heavily used, complex network
environment. However the smarter network administrators are moving toward
virtual servers, which is a more efficient use of silicon and electricity.

Vista Home premium does not support multiple processors - although Vista
Ulimate utilize multi-core processors, for actual performance gains
programs used must support multi-core processores.

Does your system actually *have* multiple processors?

Note that this is not at all the same as having a single processor with
multiple *cores*, which is supported.

That's not exactly true, neither with Vista nor with XP. With both
operating systems, it depends on the edition.

XP Professional supports two processors, but XP Home does not. And
Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise support two processor, but
neither Vista Home Basic nor Home Premium does.

However the versions of both Vista and XP that do not support multiple
processors *do* support a single multi-core processor.
