Vista Home Premium to Ultimate Upgrade

I recently bought a new HP Desktop that has Vista Home Premium installed on
it. Works well, I must say.

I also happen to have a shop bought Vista Ultimate. Can I upgrade my Home
Premium to Ultimate and still not lose any of my settings and programs, or
will I have to do a clean install of the Ultimate in order to be able to use
it.

In other words, can I upgrade the Home Version by using the Vista Ultimate
DVD as if I were purchasing the Ultimate upgrade from Microsoft?

Any help is really gratefully received and appreciated.

I just tried with the Ultimate DVD and I got no messages about an upgrade? -
And I am worried it will jusy reformat and wipe the HD where I have the Home
Premium installed?

Windows Vista Ultimate is a subset of Windows Vista Home Premium, so of
course, it will replace Home Premium, but remember, its still Windows Vista,
your personal files, settings and applications will continue to work the
same after the upgrade. Just remember that you should choose the upgrade
option when you insert the Vista Ultimate DVD during the initial phase of
setup.

Let me get this straight - I use the Vista Ultimate Cd and as it loads, I
select the UPGRADE option and then follow instructions...

Is it really that simple?

Just out of interest, can I ask why you want to do the upgrade?

Is there something specific in the Ultimate version that you need?

As far as I can see from the detail on my Vista box the only differences
between home premium and Ultimate are;

Advanced Business backup features.
Business Networking - Domains rather than workgroups?
Bitlocker drive encryption - Don't you need a dedicated chip on your
motherboard for this?

For most people, me included Ultimate gives me nothing I need. I'll never
connect to a business network, I don't have the Bitlocker chip and my
backups in home premium work just fine.

You've got that backwards. Ultimate is a superset of Home Premium. It
contains all the consumer features of Home Premium as well as all the
business-oriented features of Business and Enterprise.
