Hi, I have a fairly fast pc only two years old and it runs vista home premium.
I was thinking of getting “windows 7 pro upgrade”, apparently it will make
the pc faster but will it be that much better?

I want something with decent network abilities which I know win 7 pro has
but I am worried about loosing some of the features I enjoy in vista, will
these all still be available in win 7?

respectfully,

you can go to microsoft.com
and compare the versions for
yourself.

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and follow the
recommendations in the report it generates:

That depends on your hardware configuration, but for many people, any
difference in speed will be very minor.

For most people, no.

Here's my standard post on questions like this:

My view is that you're going about this backward. A change of
operating system should be driven by need, not just because there is a
new version available. Are you having a problem with Windows Vista
that you expect Windows 7 to solve? Do you have or expect to get new
hardware or software that is supported in Windows 7, but not in Vista?
Is there some new feature in Windows 7 that you need or yearn for?
Does your job require you have skills in Windows 7? Are you a computer
hobbyist who enjoys playing with whatever is newest?

If the answer to one or more of those questions is yes (and your
hardware is adequate for Windows 7), then you should get Windows 7.
Otherwise most people should stick with what they have. There is
*always* a learning curve and a potential for problems when you take a
step as big as this one, regardless of how wonderful whatever you're
contemplating moving to is. Sooner or later you'll have to upgrade (to
Windows 7 or its successor) because you'll want support for hardware
or software that you can't get in Vista, but don't rush it.

I say all the above despite the fact that I'm a big Windows 7 fan. I
think it's the best and most stable of all versions of Windows.

Do you network to a domain (very few home users do)? Unless you do,
there is essentially no difference in networking capabilities between
different editions, whether you are asking about XP, Vista, or Windows
7. They are essentially the same for workgroups.

Generally, yes, but there are some differences. Please be more
specific; if you are worried about losing some features, tell us what
features you worry about.
