Vista Home Premium Won't Shut Down

Hi,

I'm running Vista Home Premium since it came out. A new problem arose
about 2 weeks ago: it refuses to shut down. I have Norton 360, Ad-Aware,
and SpyHunter, and do not download unknown attachments to e-mails.I use
SeaMonkey, 1.1.8. Now, about half the time that I shut down, it says
shutting down, and that little circle goes around, but nothing happens,
for up to a half hour. If I turn off the A.C. and battery power
(laptop), it turns off of course. When I next start up, it works fine
except for no shutdown at the end. I do nott see any downloading
occurring at this time.

Any help in fixing this will be appreciated.

Morton Linder

Vista gotta be hanging on something. Post your startup list from
msconfig and let us see what is starting up.

Have you updated any drivers lately, or installed any new devices?

Thanks a lot for the replies. I will go to work on those. I have heard
from others that Norton can be a problem, but using it inits various
editions for almost 10 years now is habit-forming.

I have not updated any drivers recently, nor installed new devices.

Thanks again.

Morton

Don't know if this helps, but just off with Symantec.

Installed Norton 360 V2 today on a Vista Home Premium machine. After
the install, it wouldn't shutdown. It would only restart with a message
about a bad shutdown attempt.

Here's what solved it for me:

1) Open Norton - Settings - Firewall Protection - Program Rules
2) Basically set everyting to "ALLOW" unless you've got a good reason
not to
3) Run the Services.msc program
4) Set SYMANTEC CORE LC, COM HOST and LIVEUPDATE to "Automatic" and
Start and/or Restart those processes as appropriate
5) Close the Services.msc program
6) Restart the computer

Solved.
