I click search for updates it says it cant search for updates, windows has
encountered and unknown error

Please do another search for updates. When updating fails, close the
Windows Update applet.

Click the Start orb, in the Search field type in
windowsupdate.log

Click the windowsupdate.log to open it.
Scroll *all* the way to the bottom.

Copy and paste at *least* the last 50 or so lines into your reply, please.

See Method 1, and use " If you are running Windows Vista or Windows
Server 2008, follow these steps ... "
If no joy, try Method 2 and reinstall the Windows Update Agent.

If still no joy, then please run the System Update Readiness Tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Then try another attempt at updating.
If all of the above fails, then you can contact me via email.
We'll send the WindowsUpdate.log and the logs created from running the
SUR tool to a contact at MS.

Yea i guess i wasnt clear.

I ran the standalone installer and it said it found an update and installed

The Windows agent is still saying it cannot search for new updates though.
