vista home to vista business upgrade problems

i just purchased a laptop with vista home. also purchased vista business
upgrade. the disc wont initiallize or open. i've read everything online i
can find regarding troubleshooting (which hasn't been much) and I'm lost.
laptop meets all the requirements of running business but the laptop and
vista are new to me. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Sounds like its issue with the drive, not the disk itself, although its not
unlikely. Can you open the disk through Computer and launch Setup from
there?

Insert your Vista business DVD and reboot. Press F12 to initialize
booting options. Select you DVD drive. Press any key to boot from DVD
when prompted. Select install. When you reach the screen that ask for a
product key leave the feild blank and select no on the popup window. In
the next window select Vista business edition and click next. Be sure to
put a check in the box the reads I have selected the version I
purchased(or something like that). The next window should be the one
listing all the partitions on your system. Press the more button.
Highlight partition 0 and select delete and press yes on the popup
window. When the laptop finishes select new and press okay. When that is
complete select format and again press yes on the popup window. Press
next. Vista business will install and take you to the desktop. Roll out
the Vista DVD and then roll it back in. Install should start. Follow the
screens again until you reach the screen asking for your product key and
this time enter it. Setup should take over after a couple more screens
and your will again end up back at the desktop. Right click Computer in
the start menue and select properties and select the activation option
at the bottom to activate Vista.

I did this from memory and probably missed something but hopfully it
will get you going.
