Rick,
chkdsk was run and it said "no problems found" I was able to run a bootlog text at startup and it generated a ntbt.log I viewed the log file and i got 3/4 the way through the log and then it when to unreadable characters. Hi,
Were it me, I would use BartPE or similar with plugins for malware and boot from disk and run scans on the system, and also load registry hives to check the startup lines for unwanted entries. Basically work from outside Vista to detect what's causing the failed boot.
