Vista HP - Normal Boot OK, Can't access Safe Mode

This is a weird one. The machine, running VHP, boots OK normally apart from
an issue with Avira AntiVir Personal - Free, which my customer installed.
This tyhrows up an error and the way to resolve it is to to manually
uninstall while in Safe Mode.

When trying to access Safe Mode, I get the scrolling list of files, then the
screen goes black, I get the mouse pointer and the "egg timer" that is not an
"egg timer" for a couple of seconds and then the machine reboots, and will
reboot normally.

How can I fix this weird one?

Hi,

How about other safe mode options? Like non-gui and with networking?
Have you tried disabling all of Antivir's startup entries and services?

Hello Pud

I'm sure that you have probably already did this, but you may have
"F-Lock" or "Function Lock" key that needs to be pressed first then F
to enter the Advanced Boot Options screen

Hope this helps
