Vista/IE Problem Selecting Default E-mail Program

I have tried to make GroupWise my default e-mail program. I selected
tools, then options, then programs, and chose custom, and then
GroupWise, and then clicked ok. When I go back in to view the setting,
GroupWise is not selected. Why won't IE allow me to choose what program
I want as my default e-mail program. I went into Outlook to make sure
it was not checkmarked as my default e-mail program, but every time I
try to send a link or page through IE or Firefox, Outlook comes up. Is
there something in the registry I can change? Any help is appreciated.
Barbara

If you downloaded the email program to your computer, go to Start> Control
Panel>Programs>Default programs> Set your Defaults.

Or start>control Pane> down the left-hand bottom>Recent Tasks>Set your
Defaults.

I already tried that, but it does not work. I was hoping that there is
a registry setting I can change to make it work.

This is Novell GroupWise. The client is installed on my local drive.
The e-mails are both on the server and cached to my local drive. I
have had no problem making it the default e-mail program with XP, but
not Vista.
