I am hostng sites on Vista Ultimate using IIS. I am finding that when
the Maximum connections is reached, the network connection on my PC
drops and only comes back after I perform a repair. Anyone know a
fix, or better, a way to increase max connections?

The proper way to do this is to use a server OS version, which will have a
TCP/IP version that allows more connections. A desktop OS is really not
suitable.

If you don't want to pay the cost of a Windows server version and the
required number of connection licenses, consider Linux.

As well, you should check with your ISP's AUP. Many ISPs prohibit running
servers on non-commercial connections. .

I am familiar with the limitations of the desktop OS, but also want to
use other Vista features. I am considering doing my hosting in a VM
on a server OS as I was not aware of the 10 connection limit when I
set this up. I am using a commercial connection and pay my ISP a lot
of $$ for it so that is not an issue. I was avoiding Linux as most of
the sites I am hosting are legacy ASP applications.

Then maybe you need Win 2k8 Small Business Server.

Well my dillema is that I want to use this machine as my TV in my
office with Media Center. I have large drives on this box that hold
the files used by the ASP apps, so if I want to host them in a VM,
they will need access to the large drives on the host (can't allocate
that much disk to the VMs). I also want to be able to use these large
drives from Media Center. Can I get Media Center on 2003 Server or
possibly on 2008 server?

I don't know you should ask MS by sending an email, slip it in as a
Vista problem first.

How much RAM in the computer? From your description my recommendation would
be to run Server 2003 or 2008 in a virtual machine with Virtual PC for the
web server. You could share the large drives so they could be seen from the
vm.
