Hello, i made a mistake and now have an issue now i cant use my compac
laptop.
It was installed with vista basic. But was running slow so i decided to
do a clean install of it, but it wouldnt let me over right my C drive so
i made a partition about 12 gig, just enough to start vista. updated
with windows and all my drivers, then i found that after having 3 gig
after installing vista, then i managed to only have only around 200meg,
><

Ok here the problem, my C drive is 160g with a 12 gig partition and 2x
9g partitions, that are now cleared.
After Vista crashed, from not enough space on the hard drive ( Started
up then crashed once it got to the Windows loading screen with auroa
picture, by crash i mean self restart)

So next i tried to reinstall vista via DVD command prompt, using
Partdisk format C:
took about 20 mins and i noticed it was still on 2% so i thought it had
frozen so i closed it down to just do a Quick format, format C: /q

...... C DRIVE IS NO LONGER AVI ...

ok, now i try and do a clean install of vista via CD, starts and
expands the files, then i get this error of not being able to access
files,

So i dont have a floppy drive, i have no C drive, i have 148G usage
left, cant install vista, Laptop is about 5 months old, Have no recovery
Disk, .... Out of Ideas, Is there a command that i can use via the Live
DVD, that doesnt need to be directed to the C/D drive... can it just be
used of the Live CD X i think it is ?

Any Help?

PLEASE!

Hi,

During Vista install (booting from install disc), early in the process you
can choose some sort of "custom" option. If you choose this, you should see
a list of partitions on which you can potentially install Vista. Click on
each one and choose "Remove" until you have removed them all, and there is
only one empty disk entry left. The click "Add" to add a partition to the
empty disk. Then click "Format" to format the partition. Then use that
drive to install Vista. Maybe that's what you already did, but I couldn't
be sure from your description. Good luck either way.

Call HP/Compaq and order the recovery disk set. It will cost around $20.
Restore your computer to factory condition.

Hi,

Just some refining details on my post below that based on my memory from
just a couple passes through.

Yes, it is the "Custom Install" option. However, you first have to click
the "Drive Options (Advanced)" link to get to the screen where you can
remove and add partitions.
"Delete" is the button for removing paritions
"New" is the button for adding partitions; when clicked, Vista asks for a
size
"Format" is the button for formatting a partition.

Used Kill Disk, And WD Disk Diagnostics, wiped the drive, found out
Vista didnt need a Ms-Dos, which was preventing it from installing, with
out a Ms-Dos partition it installed.
