Vista Internet Security Programs...

Does anyone have any internet security recommendations for Vista machines?
I'm mainly looking for firewall and virus protection. I was thinking about
getting Bit Defender.

Also, do many internet security programs work on multiple machines with one
license?

If you want free...Get avast for antivirus. Comodo for firewall.
A-squared and spybot with superantispyware and you should be fine.

I suggest considering getting NOD32 for your AV. Security suites are
really not a good idea since there is no one suite that can do it all
the way it should. Usually they have a great AV and a leaky firewall and
low spyware detection. Or it will just plain screw with your sytem.
There are plenty of free products out therer that will keep you secure.

Research pays....you. Asking questions builds information.

I say consider NOD32 for antivirus because it trully is the best.

I am not sure if comodo has a vista compatible firewall released yet.

Comodo is Vista ready. And it now has HIPS and a antivirus integrated
into it that works along with your current one.

And there is a x86 and a x64 version. Both 100% free. And rated the
best as well.

Hi Chris,

You really don't need a 3rd. party Firewall, Vista has it's own and dose a
sufficient job. If you decide you don't want to use it and find some other,
make sure and turn Vista Firewall off. Don't run two at the same time.

For Antivirus I use AVG and have for a long time. You can get the FREE
version and it's works the same as the paid, but without support, no big
deal for me. As Mick mentioned, Avast is another and it's a good product as
well.

If I were you, I would consider putting together a security "package" for
yourself. Suites are really not the best solution. While one or two of their
components might be good, other bundled programs are often sub standard, and
may not even be needed. Also, these bundled suites tend to be bloated
resource hogs.

What you need is an anti virus, two or more anti spywares and a firewall.
Windows Defender is an anti spyware, get another scanner in addition.
Vista's firewall will serve most home and small business user's needs just
fine.

Keep your system patched at all times with Automatic updates, use Standard
User accounts for daily use, and enable the built in Parental Controls
should you need it. Most modern DSL and WiFi modems come with a hardware
firewall, enable yours - it is an excellent first line of defense.

Obviously, the free ones does. As for the commercial ones, a few do and most
don't. ISP's often offer security software included in the subscription, and
they can have multi computer licenses. Take a look at your ISP's support
pages.

Comodo Anti-Viruspyware 2.0 is still in beta. It works alongside with the
firewall, but is not a part of it. CAVS is reported to work with Vista.
