I own HP a6040n w/Vista home premium(5 mnths old) After paying premium price
at "BEST BUY" I find that all software on the machine except the Vista are
trial versions and have to pay more for them....Nothing but problems from day
one. I'm Completely fed up with this piece of ****. virtually every function
can be found to MALFUNCTION on a daily or weekly basis. wish I had XP pro
again...THIS IS FOR SURE MY LAST PC! Swithching to Apple..Just so its not
Microsoft.

Just because you're ****ed off with Vista, you don't need to throw the baby
out with the bath water. There are alternatives that will run on your
existing PC and in fact, run much better than Vista does on the same
hardware. Besides that, you can look forward to obtaining software at no
cost, whereas most of the software you'd need with Apple's OS, requires
more additional cost after of course a huge investment in hardware. Take a
look at Ubuntu Linux for example ...

http://www.ubuntu.com

It's free, secure and stable. It will allow you to easy pick and choose from
over 23,000 free software packages that are just a click away. It'll free
you from DRM hell that is part of Microsoft and Apple's worldview.

Cheers.

PS. Frankie Boy will surely be stocking this posting. Please be aware that
he is brain injured and will only start ranting and raving, much like
Microsoft's latest offering: http://tinyurl.com/2kczyw (both use
flawed "intelligence")

Hey NoStop - You have comprehension problems? He is interested in either XP
or Macintosh. Nobody wants to use that TOY OS Ubuntu. It is for geeks and
nerds.

Just FYI

Instead of brainlessly ranting on and on about things that do not work,
and making idle threats about switching to a Mac, perhaps your time will
be better spent actually telling us what the problem is. We can't help
you unless you're a little more specific than "virtually every function
can be found to malfunction".

You mentioned that all the installed software (other than Vista) are
trial versions (the usual case with any new computers)? Are your
problems specific to those programs, in which case your post title is
off kilter, or is the OS itself giving problems? Letting us know WHAT
the problem is is half the battle, and is the only way we can provide a
solution.

Off Topic: Anything labelled "BEST BUY" usually translates to "Worst
choice you can possibly make, but we want your money anyway".

Before Vista was released the XP based computers sold by HP had the same
crapware installed on them. HP is at least partly to blame for the problems
you've experienced. The few times I've had to remove all the crapware from
an HP computer it's taken several hours and even then there were still some
problems caused by some of the stuff not uninstalling properly. I have no
problem if someone doesn't like Vista but don't base your opinion of Vista
on a consumer level HP computer.

So what's supposed to be done, keep buying & return PC's until you find one
that runs properly out of the box ?

Time for a consistency check. Is it a 'toy os' or is it for 'geeks and
nerds' - the two would seem to be at odds. Please make up your mind
whether it takes a genius or an idiot to use Linux - you can't very well
have it both ways.

FWIW - that' hardly a change in marketing tactics. MS systems have not,
for example, come with an office suite included unless the vendor included
it and charged extra. You may find some free Open Source software to be of
use in filling the holes - e.g. OpenOffice.org is a free fully featured
office suite, hightly compatible with MS Office; GIMP is a free fully
featured phot editor with many of the capabilities of Adobe PhotoShop -
there are others, as well.
